Monte Brasil

"Monte Brasil is an extinct volcano that emerged from the sea to join the city of Angra do Heroísmo. It is a protected landscape and the city's natural park. Monte Brasil has excellent viewpoints and tree and shrub species that are of special interest.
The Castle of São João Baptista (Saint John the Baptist), on Mount Brasil, is one of the largest and most important forts that the Philippine Dynasty built in Portugal at the end of the sixteenth century.
This area is inviting for relaxing walks and has a hiking and walking trail, called Monte (Mount) Brasil, duly marked and recognized by the Regional Department of Tourism." (http://en.artazores.com/terceira/visita.php)
Robynn and I parked in the free parking lot below Monte Brasil and walked up to the castle of Saint John the Baptist. It was a beautiful hike up to the fort.

I could tell that Robynn was in awe of this place. We walked along the fort and a long the walls. It was truly impressive.
Below the Castle was a park. Robynn and I stopped here for awhile and played.
It was a really big park with many fun things to climb, and explore.

Someday soon, Robynn I will be going back to the castle to look around a bit more and walk the grounds.
