Negrito

On the lower left side of the Island Terceira...
in the fishing village Negrito are natural swimming pools.
Along the cost they added concrete slabs for sun bathing and stairs leading into the ocean for swimming. This is the adult area because it very deep, and the waves can be a bit rough. However, in the back ground you can see an area almost like a swimming pool.

This is the tot swim area. It is sheltered from the ocean preventing (at low tide) rough waves from hitting it. Here the children can play easily. At low tide the water came only to Robynn's knees. As we stayed, the tide started coming in, and I noticed the water level raising.
The pool is directly fed from the ocean, metal grates let water in and out through the wall. There was also a lot of fish swimming around with the children.
Robynn enjoyed this swimming hole. We stayed for awhile enjoying the time. She can't speak the language, but Robynn did her best to make buddies. At last she found some children making sand castles with a little sand found at the bottom of the pool. Ah, sand castles, that's a langauge the children could speak togther. Her and her new found buddies had fun building, sharing the sand, and destroying the castles once made.

There was a park, a snack bar, and a bathroom right up from the pools. The only draw back, absolutely no shade. Bring plenty of water, sun screen, hat, water shoes, bathing suite, towel, perhaps a lunch, and have fun.
